Default MT-01 I want

I want this bike. But importing it would not be economical to do so. Wish they would bring it state side. I would buy it.

It's a warrior motor in a sport bike chassis.

It was released up here in the great white north. Fantastic looking bike in person IMO. I much prefer the looks of it to those of a vmax or B-King.

That is not a bad thing, throw the stage IV comp kit in it and hope it doesn't pull your shoulders out of their sockets

Actually I would buy it for that reason alone regardless of looks

If I recall right looking at a German site it came to $25K USD for that bike, do you still want one? I thought about importing one till I saw the initial cost...one benefit of having my father in Germany right now living...buy it and toss it in his household goods and have it shipped back FREE when he moved back...and then worry about plating it. CO is pretty easy, probably could say its a home built job and they would believe it.

Which one? The only bike I can think about that is somewhat similar would be the HD XR1200, but Yamaha beat HD to the market.

I wouldn't say "sportbike chassis" as the frame is nothing like a sportbike frame. And tom me it looks more like a muscle naked bike than a true sportbike.

It isn't THAT expensive, but it aint cheap. Keep in mind that Europeans get raped on vehicle taxes. If Yamaha were to import it to the US it would be priced slightly below the R1...

But they wont, naked bikes just don't sell in the American market, specially when they are priced close to the "flagship" bikes. I don't know if you could "federalize" your own, but considering it has the Warrior's engine, and similar emissions setup (I think it just lacks the charcoal canister), it just would need a set of DOT approved lights.

You know your stuff. Yes if you did it the 100% legal way, used a broker and what have you the Federal guidelines say you can compare the engine with something that is used here already. Chances are you could have it legally imported here through a broker. The headlight probably meets DOT specs anyways which is laid out in the rules.

Been a few years since I looked at the rules and what have you but I got all that information sitting here on a shelve...the bro and I looked at being licensed Brokers/Importers to import some of the wonderful 250cc bikes and 400cc older bikes from other countries. Most of those engines share a lot of components to US engines in use or have shared int he past...all you do is have to make a case. Its more paperwork then it is hassle...you also have to post a bond equal to the value of the bike if I recall...means you got to have some money that can be tied up too till they let it through customs.

People make importation seem impossible, but it really is not that hard (why you use someone who is licensed they know the ins and outs). If you got extra money and you REALLY want a certain bike not sold here you could do it very wealthy people do that with autos all the time.
