Can Congress fix the BCS?

So it looks like there's going to be a Senate hearing about the BCS breaking the laws about having a contract that reduces competition (in a nutshell).

Do you think there's any chance Congress can get anything done to change the way the BCS handles the championship? Any chance Congress can get them to fix their system, or is Congress just wasting it's time.

No hope. If Congress gets involved they will demand that competition cease immediately, that all minority groups have rider and team representation that reflects their numerical presence in society, and that racetrack admission fees be abolished. So fuggetaboutit.

I hope that they can do just enough beating around the bush to cause the NCAA and the schools to realize that the BCS is NOT the best system for determining a champion.

Six team playoff...use the BCS standings to pick the top six, then 3v6 and 4v5. Winners move on to play 1 and 2. Winners move on to play for the championship.

That's what I figure will have to end up. But the main thing Congress is mulling around is how it's possibly illegal how the schools with money can call the shots... which actually makes sense from a business prospective because no one will tune in to watch Boise State vs Utah.

But, you know, it's just like those silly contract laws out there.

Yah, they are looking at it from an anti-trust perspective.

I personally think that there CAN be a case made for that...but I don't think it would go very far.

I have seen it argued that it can't be an anti-trust issue because college football isn't a business. Anyone that thinks college football isn't a business...and a fucking huge one at that...hasn't been paying attention for the last 100 or so years.
