Default Trans America Trail

Anyone done the entire trail, anyone planning on doing it?

A buddy and I are planning on running it in 2011, the whole thing.

Just curious to know who has done it, lessons learned, gear taken, bike chosen, etc.

Post up!

That would be so freakin' awesome. I've read about it, thought about, but don't know that I could really pull it off any time soon.

Interesting trip, I would like to do one I read about a while back. Its an adventure ride that goes from the Canadian border all the way to the Mexican border. It may have been the Continental Divide Trail but I will need to go find the story again. This is a different one but the same way I think.

I've never really done much trail riding, besides the few miles into campsites around here. Something like that would be insane, and a trip never to be forgotten. The devide trip sounds very neat. I live next to the devide down here, cross over it on my daily commute. I know there are dirt roads and tracks that can get you around down here, but I never considered being able to follow them for days and days, let alone traversing the country.

If you ever get to it, let me know. Might borrow a trail bike and come do a section with you when you are down in my parts. Not so high as the rockies around here, but gorgeous views none the less.

I have been secretly planning a cross country type trip (I want to visit all the regions in my forums) as my 'stag' trip before I get married. Kind of a last free wild man, free ballin', loosely planned trip from one corner to another with many stops in between.

Nice you need to get one of those gps transmitters that lets people watch you as you go down the road.

It looks like a complete blast. I wonder if Mad Max would make it on a ride like that, assuming the magneto ever gets through customs.

that or the continental divide would both be a blast on them. There are some parts of the trans America out west that have some distance between gas stops so mileage is important as is carrying extra fuel.

This thread oughta be in the new "Dualsport" section, no?

I'm planning on doing the eastern part of the T.A.T. this fall or maybe next spring. The Kentucky/Tennessee leg, on the DR650SE. I need to do a few mods on her first, like suspension and some racks for soft bags and such.
