I think there is something that prevents the Iron Butt people and Guiness Book of World Records from acknowledging records that involve setting best times on public roads because it could encourage unsafe conditions. Does that ring any bells?

Could be but I don't remember reading about that.

edit: could be very true as I went to the Guiness site and found no records for fastest motorcycle or car.
