Stay within the interstates and don't venture into small towns, when looking for a place to stay in the cities try to remain close to the freeways and look for the "nicer" parts of the city.

What is your route going to be? It also depends a lot on that. The most dangerous part in Mexico is the border to the US, specially to the West, it isn't nearly a bad in the Eastern (south of Tx) border towns, like Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa and Matamoros. But once you are past the border towns/cities it is much better.

Ok, so Im being pushed into taking a trip and riding a bike down through mexico and SA, what can you tell me about a safe passage through mexico with all the problems now?
