I got an email from the guy who bought it:

Quote:
Hi Tom, I thought I would let you know the low down of your VW. Looks like the demise was due to the head work that was done. Apears to have been incorrect torquing of the head and cam bearings. The head is junk, top of one valve broke off and destroyed the cam and head. Two valve bottoms broke off and imbedded in one piston. Also the turbo is shot. I am hoping replacing one piston and a new head assembly and turbo will be the extent needed to repair. Dexter
Frankly, this pisses me off. I know those assholes had the right torque specs because I gave them a factory rebuild manual to work from when I took them the car. I also provided them with new headblots etc. If they had done just what i asked, take off the head and swap out the gasket, this wouldn't have happened. I'm still not even sure why they went into it as far as they did.

I guess you were right about suspecting of the mechanic that worked on the car.

But wasn't the transmission broken too?

I told him all about the problems it was having shifting and how i thought it was the transmission. He suspected a broken (or at least a slipped) timing belt which is why I am sure he started by taking the head off. It sounds like he knows what he is doing, so I imagine he'll sort the whole thing out in good time.

I honestly hoped, however, when I sold it to him that it would be a cheap and quick fix. I was just so ready to be rid of it.

I don't know who to be mad at. The dumb kid who screwed it up at the shop or VW for making a car that was so shitty it needed to go to the shop at 26,000 miles. Honestly, I'm just sick and tired of being sick and tired about it.

So far, my Chrysler is working out well and makes me grin like an idiot everytime I get in it. I guess it is OK to love again.
