I'd started getting careless about not wearing my gear and then I went down while riding on the back...thankfully it was a little cooler that day so I actually had my gear on and the rash was still bad enough. Now I get laughed at because I don't go anywhere without every inch of my body covered in gear. Even my husband makes fun of me sometimes for not just wearing my jeans, but insisting on wearing overpants as well. He on the other hand has never been down! I'd rather sweat than deal with road rash or any other injuries again just because I thought it was too hot or whatever to wear my gear!

It only takes one time down to learn the hard way. Personally, I'd rather be more pro-active and not "learn" that way. And yes, I've been down a couple of times on "slow speed" stuff and I'll tell you that the gear works as advertised.

You do watch motorcycle races right? And when they go down they are going much faster than probably you or I ever get close to. And what happens the majority of the time? They bounce right back up and either are back in the race or walking back to the pits. Can't much prove this stuff works better than that!

Yeah, I know. Outside of the racetrack we deal with a barrage of stuff on the road from teenagers texting to gravel and dead animal carcasses and everything inbetween. So why even tempt yourself that you'll go without your gear on? It's just plain stupid in my book..........

Leather could have saved this guy. Mesh jacket not so much. But anything is better than just a tshirt.

Course I have been just as guilty. However I tend to ride with more gear lately as I have 3 people in my life that need me to be healthy. Getting hurt doesn't just effect me but my family. Thats what scares me most.

From the looks of it, even a leather jacket probably wouldn't have saved him from this. It looks like it would have hit right near where the bottom of the jacket would have been and it probably would have moved the jacket. A 1 piece though woulda done the trick, but it still would have hurt like a biotch!!!!!!

Hind sight is always 20/20...maybe a Jacket of any type would of helped, maybe it would of moved, maybe a full leather suit would have stopped it totally, or at least made it a less ever cut. Who knows....however we all can agree a Jacket of some sort would have been the smart thing...guy says he does wear a Jacket just decided not to THAT day.

It seems thats when shit happens.

On my Hein Gerick in that spot it would of had to cut through the kidney belt thats built in and then the Jacket too, plus its padded there so it might have stopped the cut. But then again as pointed out the jacket might of moved up anyways.

You think guard rails are bad, up north of me on I-25 near Castle Rock they installed wire for miles down the side of the road...I have no idea why they did this...but now its all cabled off North and South bound lanes. Good thing is no cops can wait or cross the median either as it is right next to the shoulder.

My new 'Puter wont open that link for some reason.

The American Cheese slice-sized road rash on my right butt cheek-thigh area after my crash in 07 was WAY more painful and difficult to deal with than the broken bone OR the whole body bruise. FUGG that. I will wear leathers, pound Smartwater, and do whatever else I need to, but there ain't no exposed skin on Uncle Fizzle anymore.

Yes, I had an accident a few weeks ago and the one like you have fell off the damn table and the screen was busted. I priced my options, and considering the thing was heavily infected with viruses, I was able to secure a replacement for about the same price as I paid back then, with twice the capability. That was about the time you and I talked I think. I'm happy with the result.

There are two types of riders, those who have fallen and those who haven't fallen yet. I've been lucky so far and haven't fallen yet but I prepare for the worst and hope for the best I know sooner or later it will probably happen and when it does I will rely on you guys to help me get back to riding
