Thumbs up Motorcycle helmet rating site

Take it as you will...

It may cause some heartache among those that think cheaply priced helmets are not as safe as their high dollar counterparts, because every single Bell helmet tested had a 5 star rating!!

So, hear ya go...Let the debate begin

I dont think most people think cheap helmets are less safe, just less comfortable.

Even cheap helmets must still pass the safety codes/requirements. But the more expensive ones typically have more comfortable features; such as weight reduction with lighter materials, greater stitch quality in the straps, air flow, and various other features.

I have little doubt that the $180.00 HJC CL-SP that I give to my passengers would protect in essentially the same fashion as my Arai Rx-7 Corsair which cost $570.00. The Arai does flow a LOT of air though, much more than the HJC, and that to me was worth the extra $$$.

It is loud as hell, though. Earplugs are a must.

In '05, Motorcyclist magazine did a 3 part series called "Blowing the Lid Off". It's an excellent article on this subject. In their testing, the best performing helmet was one of the cheapest. The Z1R I believe. (been a while since I read it). It's a good read.
