I dont' mind riding at night, it is very peaceful at night. I don't like riding as the sun is setting because then it is sill too light out for the headlight to be of use but dark enough that everything is the color of deer.

I grew up out in the woods of Western Washington and I have two pieces of advice -

First, watch out for deer and second, if the roads are really rural make sure someone knows where you are going and when ou will be back. Blow off a corner into the brush and you may not get found until someone working on a phone line smells your rotting corpse.

We always rode in large groups. Buncha hooligans really. One reason I don't ride at night now is because I don't know anyone who does, except now Tom of course.

You know at least one more, Acalliste!

Living on one of the local hotspots for cyclepathic riders I enjoy a little night time romp through the ole stomping grounds. I don't push it but I ain't a laying back and taking it easy. Deer aren't in the area anymore but you do have to watch out for the occasional gator, coyote and Tom once saw a black bear in my neck of the woods. Oh and those damn armadillos have some kind of suicide pact going on involving the couch. Those steenkeen bahstads love to do it in the middle of the 561 S-Curves.

Oh and I think I mentioned once that some one had missed the roundabout on 455 (technically they didn't miss it, they ran straight over it) and dropped some slippery ass liquid. That was a butt pucker night ride fer sure especially seeing as how I thought I came into to it too hot for the turn and the washout on the front didn't help the ole confidence.

Oh and I was coming home from my brothers house last night on one of the back roads that detours around Winter Garden. It's a 35 mph residential area with a banked 10mph turn and I like to see how well I can take it day or night, it's that type of easy turn. Only last night at the last minute I see that sand has completely covered the lane. Rather I saw it in plenty of time but it took my understanding of what it was a long time to grasp the seriousness of it. I had just come through there earlier in the day and it was clear. If that isn't a reinforced lesson on not taking the road for granted, I don't know what is.
