Damn I hate people!!! 1 year and a half since my last wreck, not at fault, and again... Not at fault this time either, but it hurts either way and even if you are not at fault you lose (this time even worse, see below).
I was on my way to work and some stupid dang chinese guy ran a red light, he hit me on the right side... The MOFO didn't even speak spanish! Obviously he didn't accept that he had ran the red light, and I wasn't going to take the blame. Mexico City traffic laws won't do anything on this case, as both streets have the same # of lanes, and witnesses are not accepted to take part unless they were traveling in one of the vehicles. So both of us had to take our losses and go our ways. The damage: - Fairing is broken and missing parts (not repairable) - Front fender is broken (but repairable) - Front brake lever is broken. - Radiator is bent and broken. - Radiator hose is broken. - Tail is scratched. - Rear brake lever is a little bit bent. Still have to check it, but the car did hit the fork and broke the fender, so they might be damaged. The injuries: - My right shoulder/arm hurts like hell. Right in the joint, but not the joint, the muscles. - Nice bruising to my left leg, right under the knee. - Bruising on my right leg, behind the knee on the lowest part of the thigh. Obviously I didn't made it to work... I was attending a maintenance window (network) and it had to be canceled. After 8 years commuting in my bike and 1 year and 1 month being bike only I think I might finally give up on commuting on a bike...

That Blows
![]() Glad you're ok and hope the bike isn't a total loss ![]() So bystanders aren't allow to speak unless they're in one of the vehicles? That's odd

Well, yes, they can speak but the forensics have the last word, and those guys don't listen to witnesses... Usually witnesses are only helpful to pressure the other party into accepting they are at fault, if the other party denies it, then you have to go into arbitration, which may take a very long time and most witnesses won't bother spending the night with you at the police station. In this case my witness left, no street had preference over the other street, so it would go straight to the accident reconstruction people, and when they analyze the crash, there is nothing that proves that either one ran the red light, so they declare themselves unable to give a verdict and all you've done is waste your time and pay a ticket for having being involved in an accident and also impound fees...
My bike is not insured. Insurance is not required, therefore, most insurance companies do not insure bikes and the few that do, might not want to insure you or give you an outrageous quote... SV insurance, if I managed to get it covered, is over $2,000 USD a year, and that's only collision, liability and theft. Therefore I carry my own medical insurance, if anything happens to me. If you crash into someone else, cause damage and you're at fault, the usual thing to do is to pay the affected party's deductible (do you guys call it that?). Here insurance companies do not look into wreck history or license points, so your premiums are not affected. Don't think it will be too expensive to get it fixed, needs a fairing, radiator, brake lever and paint. The only par that is worrying me, as I know will be expensive, is the radiator.

I'm really sorry to hear about the accident Suss, but glad you're here to bitch about lousy drivers. Bikes can be fixed. Heal up quick.

You've got bigger balls than I do. Being a pedestrian in Mexico City is dangerous enough can't imagine commuting on 2 wheels.
