Having lived in Mexico City I can attest he has big balls for commuting in that crazy place...LOL People tended to do some really stupid shit there...like once a VW Beetle made a left turn from the middle lane in front of my fathers Ford Bronco...there was not much left of that VW Beetle's side as we were going about 45mph. After my father got out cussing the guy out and saw that there was no damage to us, the guy in the beetle who looked very afraid got back in and said 'okay okay', we went on our way.

Here is a fun fact some might not realize...We are told by the US Embassy in places like Mexico, Togo, Moscow we are never to stop for a cop, you are also never to stop for an accident, you are to drive straight to the US Embassy (this being a Diplomat and not a tourist of course). If you do stop for a cop, you tell them they have to follow you to the Embassy (we just never stopped for the shake downs/bribes).

Good thing you are okay. I guess this reconfirms Asians are poor drivers...LOL

just out of curiosity do you look beyond the corner when you approach a light? I know i get really nervous when i see cars approaching cross traffic and they do not appear to slow down, so I slow down and when they stop i feel relieved and continue on my way.

I know I do that too, I watch like a hawk at what they are doing as I come up. Whether car or bike...saved my mothers truck from being T-boned by a lady that looked to be not paying attention and sure enough she slams on her brakes and slide into the intersection (you could see the lady throw her cellphone in the air)...my mother thanked me for paying attention, at the time I remember they were like "light turned green"...yep but things did not look right to me so I stayed put.

Always watch what others are doing, has saved me more then once in life. You typically can Judge speed....its pretty obvious if the speed limit is 45mph and the lady is 10 feet from the now yellow light her options are to speed up or slam on the breaks...know your cars too...chances are a huge SUV like I saved us from was not stopping without being half way through the intersection.

In the country at 4 way stops is the other direction stop sign blinded by trees. I've seen this a lot. Heck I have ran a stop once on a road because of that. You should not ASSUME others will stop or can even see the light or sign. I take note of trees, and where the sun is int he sky...and I am more cautious.

I always look both sids and make sure there are no cars coming, I always assume some idiot will blow the red light, and most of the time they do, like on this busy intersection.

This time I didn't. I was thinking about work and what I had to do that night, so I broke one of my golden rules and took off as soon as the light turned green...

So the traffic lights are just suggestions?

Sorry about your wreck, hope you are ok.
