Evel Knievel days 2010

Each year we have a few days to celebrate the legacy of Motorcycle's and those who have dared to conquer the art of two wheels, They named those days after a Legend who pioneered much of the mastery, insanity, controversy and flat out outrageous feats of Evel Knieval. Its ironic that although it is held in his home town of Butte Montana, it is also a town which has a strong distaste for him and the rather poor business aspect of a man considered by many to be nothing less than a thief, be that as though it may, his impact on the sport and impression set upon those of us who grew up watching him is undeniable. Butte is never short of controversy, but somehow it manages to overcome that and throw some of the greatest parties, and events on earth, This most defiantly is one of them, Knievel days is one of those events that holds a little something for everyone, Car & bike show, Food and drink vendors, plenty of racing, be it quad, supermoto, shortrack with demonstrations in trials, it also has one hell of a party each night with live music. Partying in Butte is like nothing you will ever experience with the drinking culture and acceptance of "boozing' being probably higher here than any other place in America.
The Turn out each year is something like 30,000 people, this year I believe it fell a bit short of that do to a big fault in this state, cramming as many events into july as humanly possible and leaving august next to bear, during this weeks festivities there was also a motocross event, mudbog and flintcreek valley days in neighboring cities, obviously impacting, the planning was not as good as in the past, and many of the events ran at the same times as others, The one event which seemed to grow the largest amount of people was following in the shadow of insanity and IMO flat out stupidity, that of spanky spangler and his yearly show, without a doubt he grew nearly the entire crowd for his 20 minute exibition of driving around and finally doing nothing more than wrecking a car in a blast of fireworks which was meager to say the least, but what the hell, Evel was not without his shortcomings in his stunts, so lets see what he may bring next year. I hope that these days come back strong, and that more people will attend, for despite agreeing or disagreeing with the life of Evel, one thing is for certain, these days are a chance for everyone to be exposed to motorcycles and those who ride them, so without further wait, and torture of reading without the aid of cliff notes, I give you knievel days through my eyes.
About the nicest place in Butte, all one acre of it.
