The second number ie. 190/50/17 it's the 50 that determines the tire profile height, 190 being width, 50 being a percentage of the tire width determines the tire height.

The formula goes like this. tire width = A, tire profile height is a percentage number of a = B, actual profile height = C
A*B=C

The taller the profile height for a given with means quicker turn in

So a 190/50/17 would have a tire height of 95mm. (190* 0.50=95)
A 190/55/17 would be 104.5 mm (190*0.55=104.5)
A 180/55/17 would be 99mm (180*0.55=99)

^ that means both a 190/55 and 180/55 would both turn in quicker and also be a bit taller (which btw will increase spedo error)

Edit: there's more to it than that, but it gives you a fairly accurate idea of what happens with different sized tires on a given rim width

Edit 2: increase spedo error isn't right it'll decrease it
You have to make sure you have clearance, too. A friend put a set of Dunlops on his bike and chewed it to pieces since it expanded at speed and wore itself out on the fender in front and on the swingarm by the pivot in back. I would tell you what bike, but I don't remember now.

I'm pretty sure it's 6in rim. Whatever the stock rim size is. I know I've seen a lot of people over on the Hayausa Forums go to a 180. After this quick Colorado trip most of the rest of the tire life will get used up on the flatlands of Nebraska anyway. Not like I live on the sides of my tires like some people do.
Well, then try a 190/55 after you go through this 180 (assuming you do have a 6" rim), and then you can report from back-to-back experience. I like the 190/55 because it gives effectively the same profile as a 180/55, yet fits the rim without flattening as a 180 on a 6" rim will do. Plus, it raises the rear a few mm, which is nice for bikes that don't have adjustable rear ride height. Biggest downside is not all tires are available in that size.

Er, GPS stands for "Global Positioning System".

Last I checked, "canyons" are on the globe Only place GPS doesn't really work is indoor concrete/steel structures, underground like subways, and under 15-20' of water.

OK gps needs 4 sat signals to function fully, with 3 you start to loose funtions, less than that and no dice, many a canyon won't allow reception for more than 2 satalites hence not working, I live on the northern plains, you'd think I would get great reception every where here, nope there's places within 5mi of my house it won't work signals get blocked by terain, hell it won't work on my folks back patio cause they live in a prehistoric river bed and the sats in the north are blocked so no go.

I've been tempted several times to try a 180 on the busa but have always been happy with the 190 so I didn't see the need. Let me know how it works. Maybe your review will be my tipping point.
