Default Bikes with EXUP Valves

I was getting a code 7K, hell it been like that for 8K-10K miles *shrug* I looked into it and found you got to lube the Valve every 4K-6K miles with anti seize grease. Of course a head of a bolt broke off, and that took me like 6 hours to fix yesterday :-(

I'm just giving a heads up to those that have EXUP on their bikes. Yamaha really should of left that in their maintenance scheduling of their bikes. It is easy, and well worth it to not get that code from it binding. Also remember to put anti seize grease on the bolts to they are easier to get out the next time.

Here is the write up about lubing it near the bottom of this link:

Here is a tip............ditch the valve.

The EXUP valve is nothing more than a clever marketing gimmick. The EPA mandates noise reduction and one way to do that is to baffle in the main pipe before the muffler.

It restricts flow thus causing a bit of extra torque and thats the marketing ploy. Tell people its to increase the torque range and that it goes full open at WOT.

Why bother? How much torque do you think its worth? Not much on any dyno Ive seen.

Just think.......if you jump the servo for a 636 to keep the thing wide open, it picks up nearly 10HP............hmmmm

^^which is exactly what I did and now put out 118 rwhp on 87 octane pumpgas. (edit: on the Kawi)

pretty nice gain IMO.

Suppose mine will be getting greased pretty soon then. Been wanting a full exhaust system for awhile now, but the funds don't allow it so it stays stock and quiet.

Yep. Safety wire and mapping software do wonders until I get around to just welding in a piece of straight pipe.

I ditched it on my 1900 and it made a difference especially since it is such a low reving engine anyway.

Well I am in the process of selling my bike so I figured I would look into why it was tossing a code 7K (I assumed the servo motor was going out, but it was nice to know all it was was lack of grease). I'm not into loud pipes at all, hence why I have a stock exhaust. However if I ended up keeping the bike and it really was the servo motor I probably spend the extra $$$ to get a full exhaust vs paying like $240 for the servo motor and another $120 for the cables.

I have a Army guy that might buy the bike he wanted to leave a deposit I just did not want to lock myself into him as I had a few other lookers that wanted to come out. He is going to get a sweet deal I', going to do the valve adjustment tomorrow I think, cost me some shims and some time and buying my bro in-law lunch but I rather just do it so I know the guy or whoever will be getting a bike I should hear nothing bad about.
