Name: Ken

Age: 48(49 in July)

First street bike: 1976 Yamaha RD 250

Bikes: I am not going to list them all because the total combined of street and race bikes would be well over 30 +

But the last 4 were street:

1987 FZR 1000

1989 GSXR 750

1990 FZR 600

1994 CBR 900

Got married in 92 and sold the CBR in 97 when I moved from B'ham to the ATL for a new job. Did not ride from 97 until 08 when I could no longer stand it and purchased my 08 R6 in June of that year.

Never did the MSF class but started roadracing in 87, went through the Ed Bargy school that year, went from novice to expert midway through my first year and was asked to join an endurance team(Cycle Motion Racing) based out of B'ham Al. My first year in that I was racing againt guys like Scott Russell/ Kevin Rentzel riding for team Solimax and guys like Kurt Hall that were big in WERA at that time. I also held a expert AMA licence at during this same time.

High water mark: came in 1990 when I won the southeastern C production class. I was also leading the race at road Atlanta at the WERA national championship that year when I crashed on the last lap right befor the start/finish line.

Sold my last bike because the now ex wife told me I was selfish for continuing to ride with a newborn on the way because"if you get hurt how are you going to work?", the racing of course had already stopped for the same reason.

But my son is now 16, I have insurance up the ass to take care of him and the week of my B'day this year(July13th-18th me and my best friend are going to spend 4 days leaving from my house, doing the loop and then going to stay in Gatlinburg and spend the next 2 days on the dragon, riding the Blue Ridge/ Fontana dam and wherever th fuck we want to go! Life is good sometimes.

Certs: M/C endorsement for the province of BC '85, no restrictions.

General: I started off riding dirt bikes at the age of 14, figured out the ergonomics of a few different rides and handling, then once I was old enough to get my MC license I hit the streets. There weren't any MSF courses back then, so I learned from seasoned riders that taught me some very good tips that I still carry through today.

I learned very fast how important it is to watch everything around you while riding, and not to take things for granted. It can all be over in the blink of an eye. I wrote off one smaller bike (the 200) back in '86, when an older lady made a left hand turn in front of me, cutting me off. She didn't see me, and tried to squeeze past the pickup that was ahead of me, and the car behind me, claiming she didn't see me. I ended up t-boning her car, and got drug down the entire length of it because she didn't stop. That cost me eight months on my back. The only other accident I've had was when another older lady made a u-turn in front of me; again, didn't see me and I had no time to react. No signal, no nothing. That was a year later.

I worked at a local motorcycle shop a couple of years after getting my license, building bikes, pulling wrenches, inventoried parts, getting to know many of the area riders and would hit any group rides that were planned, and got into the quad circuit.

I haven't really been without a bike for more than a few months. I find it a very empty feeling without one, and am always looking for people to ride with and go on some good road/bush trips.

In July of 2006 I received a great sportbike, the '95 RF600R and tried to get as much time on it as I possibly could. I had been looking at the FZ6 and the R6, but couldn't turn this one down as it was my brothers and I knew he looked after it...and the price was right. I did a few mods to it and personalized it a bit, and got a lot of compliments on it. Not many of these around anymore in this shape. Unfortunately, it didn't fit my riding style and I found that I was missing the trails, so I sold it within 3 days of having it listed.

Oct 2008 I walked out the door with my current ride, a 2009 Yamaha WR250R. I entered back in the world of dual sport, and haven't looked back. I can ride the streets with ease, and just as easily rip off onto trails. It wasn't long though before I had my first incident on this bike. April 18, 2009, I was almost killed by someone who tried knocking me off my bike with a loaded bag of garbage as I rode by on the road. So it isn't just motorists you have to watch out for, it's crazy old people or anyone for that matter who have a dislike for motorcycles, PERIOD. And there are a lot of them out there!!

I will help any fellow rider with anything I know is within my limits and knowledge, to hopefully spare them any grief down the road. I still however, have a thing for mud, which unfortunately the sport bike wasn't good in. I find the stuff extremely intoxicating. The WR takes to it incredibly well, so it's all good.

1980 Suzuki GS-1000G
1982 Yamaha LC50 Champ

MSF Graduate in like 2003 or something.

General:
I got my first bike in June of 2002. It was a 1985 Kawasaki ZX600R. Got it for about $500 bucks and rode it for that summer. Put about 1,200 miles on it before catastrophic engine malfunctions left it for dead. I sold it to a guy I work with who ended up doing a ground up restore on it. It's beautiful now, but alas...anyways, most of this perspective won't deal with the ZX600R due to the fact that I didn't get to ride it much, and it's been a while since I did so I don't remember alot of it.

The following spring, I ended up picking up a 1986 Yamaha YX-600 Radian. It was a 599cc air/oil cooled I-4 standard. It was sporty and comfortable. I really enjoyed riding it. I rode it about 1,000 miles that year, and then the next year I did about the same. The following July, 2005, I finally got around to taking the MSF Basic Rider Course. I know, better late than never though, right? Anyways, after the BRC was out of the way I started putting some serious miles in. Between July and September I put about 1,700 miles on the Radian. Then in 2006 I put about 1,500 miles on between April and August. For some reason last fall I just got tired of riding, so I put the bike up early.

My Ninja 250 now is, not to toot my own horn, one of the most tricked out 250s you'll see. It's got pretty much everything done to it that it can possibly have done to it, other than SS brake lines, rearsets, and lowered risers. I had the lowered risers and rearsets on it, but didn't really like them, so I sold them. I MAY go back to the rearsets sometime this fall, and SS lines are on the way sometime this summer. Other than those things, there isn't much else I can do to it short of one off custom jobs, which I'm not interested in.

I don't get to ride nearly as much anymore as I would like to. I've actually contemplated selling all of my bikes and getting a Jeep or an old Bronco or something, but I can never quite talk myself into doing it...

I'm Josh.

Age: 19

Miles: ~25,000+

1st bike: 2003 tw 200, ridden for only 4 months after I got my license.

2nd bike: 2003 v-star 650 classic, ridden for 15 months.

3rd bike: 2004 vtx 1800n, ridden for the last 3.5 years. (just sold)

No accidents, tickets, or even been pulled over in 5.5 years

AL motorcycle endorsement

I started riding dirtbikes at eleven or twelve. I started on an '82 honda 80. lol. Then the tw200 was given to me for my 13 birthday, best surprise ever! I rode that thing night and day on our 50 acres. After I got my license, I moved up quickly and my parents knew my head was on straight. So, they let me ride the vtx because my dad didn't have time for it anymore. The last few years it has kinda been impractical for me to ride but I did when I could. most of those 25k miles were in the first two years of riding. I love riding and I hope to buy another bike in the future. At the moment it is impossible to afford another...

2006 Polaris Edge Touring 600 (Current)
2007 Giovani 50cc 4-wheeler (Current, kid's)
2001 Yamaha Warrior 350

History Detail:

I always wanted a motorcycle (strictly dirt or dual purpose) just never could afford one. Then in 2008 my wife surprised me with a late birthday present of the KLX. I told her I wanted a dual sport because I didn't want to be constrained to the street. Well after riding it on and offroad for a bit I found I was having more fun getting to the trail than I was on the trail and felt much more at home with 4-wheels on dirt. So, decided to keep the KLX as a street learning tool and had it lowered for the wife to be able to ride as well, since she devleoped an interest.

Enter Katana 750, our first street bike. My wife had done her BRC and we were both enjoying riding at this point. Even though the KLX was lowered it was still too tall for the wife, so we traded it on an 08 ZZR and had THAT lowered for her. She loved the fit and feel of the ZZR, but after I told her of a scare it gave me (pulled a lot of throttle in 1st and wasn't quite prepared for the power) she got skittish around it. I completed my BRC around mid season (after about 500km or so LOL).

Enter Ninja 250R. We bought that as a more "comfortable" bike for her and since we were making payments on the ZZR, decided to sell the Kat to pay for the Ninja.

We both have our endorsement now and many more km under our belts. The wife loves her little ninja but sometimes wonders if she shouldn't have stayed on the ZZR (fear of getting complacent on the ninja) but she is content for now. In a year or two we may get her back on the ZZR and I will get a new bike, or may just get another new bike for her.

Happy Riding!
