So, I learned today that I hate cactii.
I've been itching to ride, and I know my friend has been (she has been asking me to take her for another ride, it had been awhile due to tire, and gear crash issues). So we decide that, the weather was really nice (76 degrees F, for you Canucks that's like 23C if I did that conversion right) and we should go somewhere that we could also do some exploring. I knew the perfect place about an hours ride out. So we get there (wow, I am using so a lot), and degear and go out into the woods. We see a cactus and she says "I wonder if it has water that we could drink" so I try to break it open using rocks. I now know what cactus feels like all over my hands. Doesn't hurt too much unless it gets in deep. We keep going, trying to find water (which is quite a thing in the drought we have had), and we stumble upon a dried up creek bed. You'll see in the pics the rocks along the side (the creek bed is very nearby, it led to the lake) and we climbed up and down the rock siding that was similar to this stuff, only it was on the creek bed. Super fun. Then found ducks, and an abandoned dock. Also sat down on a cactus (another reason I hate them, riding home I went psycho because I found a prickly that I didn't get out of my butt). Super good day. Much better than the past few I've been having. Plus I think she's interested, which is always a plus! Here are pics, we also found some natural growing 'herbs' which was quite funny to see out there, considering how dried up everything else was! Here is the lake, literally no civilization. ![]() Here is a picture we took after climbing up the side. You can see the creek bed down there. ![]() Here she is, lying on the dock out over the water. ![]() Overall, great time! Definitely planning on going back out there. |

CamelBak. Get one, then no water scavenging for you anymore.
![]() Sounds like a fun day, otherwise! |

Or bring a couple of bottles of water with you. I like to freeze them overnight, then let them thaw while riding so I have chilly cold water to drink most of the day.

I have a camel back. It wasn't that we were scavenging for water, we were just trying to find a big area of water lol. I guess it does sound like we were dying of thirst :P
