Drive or Fly to AZ?

I have drove back to TN every time I visit my parents. I prefer driving and see the country.

I did some quick math, not sure where in AZ you going so I used Tucson. 1430 miles from Des Moines, IA.

In my Jeep it would cost me round trip in just gas, $608. However if I had my Ford Focus it would only cost $389.07 round trip for gas. Then factor in one motel each way at $50 (maybe cheaper maybe more). Oh I also figured high for gas at $4.00 a gallon. So in the Focus we be talking $589.07.

So if your ticket cost $350 round trip, how much for car rental $150? If so that puts you at $500, possible more.

I think it looks like it could be in your case so close to drive its up to you. By close I mean within a few hundred dollars round trip of each other. For me, that is close enough I tend to drive. Now if we are talking my new Jeep, yeah I might fly (nah who am I kidding I still drive because I can take my dog with me, saves on boarding cost and I tend to stay 16 days though when I visit my parents. (Funny talking about close to the same miles I think I am just over 1,200 to go from my place to central TN).

I'd be heading to Chandler. The tickets I found for 350 are out the window. Now we are talking around 450. But that seems to fluctuate every other day or so. A car rental in for when I stop in boulder and one for the whole time in AZ would be about 200 bucks. I don't really need a car in AZ technically but I hate not having one.

On the way down I'm stopping in Boulder so see a friend so I wont need a hotel on the way there. On the way back I may get a hotel, I love Super 8, or I'll catch a couch at my buddies place in Kansas.
