I'm looking at a new job - nothing official yet, just looking - that is based out of Battle Creek, MI. From what I have seen online, the cost of living there is low and the homes are priced very reasonably. My salary would put me well above the average for the area.
I see on line that crime and unemployment are high. I've seen the usual things published on line by people who have been there and hated it, but we all know how bitchers post everywhere while supporters almost never write anything. Does anyone know the real scoop about living there?

I was born & raised in a little town in SW Michigan and I turned out all right. If you try to live in a more rural area outside BC, you would probably be better off. For example, Niles, MI & South Bend IN were the closest larger cities to where I lived and they are much worse for crime & bad elements than where I was. Huge difference. I didn't even have an awareness or understand the concept of crime until we moved to Orlando.

That's funny GuyI wish I could help you out Uber ![]() BTW: I thought of you last night when my supervisor told me he has the opportunity to go to Okinawa (sp). He's not real enthused about the idea. I told him I'd be all over it like a hobo on a ham sandwich

If he has any questions, hook us up and I'll give him a clue. He'd have a great time, providing he takes the time to get off the base and avoid hanging around with Americans.

I think he will find that the culture IS very different, but that's the point in going. Okinawa is not like the rest of Japan, it is much more like the USA and there are a lot of people who speak English, especially in stores and hotels.
How long is he talking about going for anyhow, a few weeks won't hurt anyone.
