Ok, I am going to rant a bit here, but yesterday was an opportunity to munch and munch away on several strings of Harley riders that I came across. Yep, call me immature, call this rant "uncharacteristic" call it whatever, I just have to vent.
The first string of Harley riders was on a road out in the boonies of Florida. We've got a sweet twisty road with some awesome slow speed turns. I'm riding the ZZR600, and I'm finishing up 300 or so miles for the day. I come up to the last rider, and she's getting ready for the first turn. Oh, my - Her handle bars are quivering, she can't keep a line, she almost dumps the Harley in the slow speed turn. Her buddies are not much better. They are a string of riders that might have just come from one of the biker bars up the road. I'm left with a quandary. Are they that bad a bunch of riders or are they all drunk? I make a fast pass and get by them, then Bill has to deal with them being "angry" that we passed. The second string of Harley riders we come across is right after this cool round-about on the local loop we have near my house. This area of roads is where we have our local loop. Plenty of sport bikes and performance cars do their "thing" out here as the PoPo is routine in how they patrol. Anyway, just after the round-about, there are about 6 cars pulled over to the side of the road - they look like Toyota Celicas - and it appears they are comparing notes or something. The Harley riders get through the round-about and rev their engines and make a "show" with the car folks looking up at that exact moment . Well, I'm already making a high speed pass as the Harley folks get the attention of the car folks and as I zip past - once again - they are not happy. Once again, Bill has to deal with them being "angry". So here is the main part of the rant. Who the F*** do Harley riders think they are? They can't ride, or they ride and drink, then they feel the road is their own slow-poke-zone where they go so slow as to make passage almost impossible. What kind of passive-aggressive mentality do they have when they are out "cruising" and "boozing"? I freak'n can't stand Harley riders. I try and see the cool, but all I see is the fool. I've seen decent "cruiser" riders, but Harley riders - they are a bunch of posers and clichés. Ugh. I can't wait until they go bankrupt. Yesterday was one of those days where I'm sure they hated another "Crotch Rocket" rider, but what the F***, they bring it on themselves! I wave at all two wheeled - even three wheel - things on the road, but now when I see a Harley I say under my helmet - "How'dy ya f*** - tard". Ok. Hate me. There's my rant. |

Makes me think of the South Park episode..."Fags".

On every long motorcycle trip I have always noticed Harley riders going under the speed limit with cars backed up behind them, then you pass and they get all pissy and speed way up...I've had them speed up to try and block me...on the FZ1 I think not.
I've been behind a string of Harley riders here in CO in the mountains going under the 45mph and like you witnesses barely being able to make the curve below the speed limit...LOL Then here comes the long straight away, they all give it gas and try and take off...I once had to hit 130mph to get around them in that straight because they speed up from 25mph to 90mph and it was a string of them....sure enough as the corners come up they slam on their brakes and I never see them again as I slow down to 50-60 and lean in and take the corner while I continue to slow. I've had to pass Harley riders while driving the cage before. Hell I once posted how I was on the dirt road I take to the trails and this yahoo was on a full dressed Harley in the middle of the road...I waited and waited but he never pulled over for me to go around while I was on the XR650R and because he was int he middle I was unsure which side to attempt to go around as he would sometimes swerve right and sometimes left...I did go around but it was a good 15 minutes, I made sure to roost the shit out of him...hell before making the pass I got right up to him where he KNEW I was there and I revved the shit out of my bike...NOPE. Probably same asshat that will not pull over in his truck on that dirt road and gets pissed when I pass. *shrug* What are you going to do!!! |

I'm surprised there aren't more responses on here. Hogs are just that- Hogs. Yeah, there's good riders out there and some decent folks who ride those big old loud bikes, but like mentioned twice above, they either are drinking and driving or they just don't know how to handle a big bike. I, too, came across a string of Hogs somewhere over in the Sierra Foothills. Last bike a lady who looked like she just got the bike that very day because her corners were outright outrageous (I feared she would drift and smack into the oncoming traffice) and on a single lane highway. Pass? Yup, every time a straightaway off they would go like thunder only to have me back on their tail going into another set of turns. My nephew is a poster boy for Harley. Both he and his dad ride Hogs and they're nice guys! So it isn't all of them, but it sure seems like the majority of these fools ride the Hog Lifestyle!! What scares me the most is the drinking and riding- it's also part of the "Hog Lifestyle"....what with their little plastic lids on their stupid faces and leather vests with various club logo's on them meant to scare you (that's a laugh!). I live on a twisty two lane highway here on the coast. These idiots come from over the Central Valley and you can hear them miles away as they try to come through the hills. Then they come roaring past (and I mean ROARING!) with radios blasting away and that single thumping speed and usually with a string of cars behind them. A string of more than 10 bikes in any type of riding trips causes a problem for everyone on the road- bikes behind you, cars behind you, cops up ahead can hear you, helicopter/planes overhead can visibly see you better....get the drift here?

I just don't get it. I mean if they let me/us pass, they will never see me/us again. Then they get the road to themselves. It's got to be a poser thing as the longer I am behind a Harley the longer they can be seen and thus noticed. All I want to do is enjoy the road, not listen to or watch other bikes - especially loud and slow ones.

We kept doing the "BrumbahbahbahBrumbahbahbahbah" yesterday due to all the loud bike/Harleys on the road.

I'm glad that the HD riders in Mexico don't follow the stereotypes to the T.
They behave like any other cruiser rider, and cruiser riders are not very friendly, but far from being unfriendly, to sportbike rdiers. Some of them will wave back, but most won't. I think it's easier for a BMW rider to wave back (most of them do... goes to show how backwards Mexico is). If anything, Mexican HD riders are more unfriendly/hostile torwards the metric cruiser crowd than the sportbike crowd. Get on a dual purpose bike and most riders wave back, we dual purpose riders seem to be appreciated everywhere

^^^ not true here, Dual Sport riders never would wave back to me when I had the FZ1. Now that I have a Dual Sport I noticed the sportbike and other riders don't wave back and only other Dual Sports will wave. I never got that whole thing of waving anyways, I wave...but it does get old because its not like it means anything now a days as there are thousands of bikes on the road in my area...sometimes I myself have given up waving after the 10th bike of any type.
I like waving to young kids that seem excited and stop in their tracks when they see you....I try and always wave to them because they are the future of our sport. Well back to windows for me |

I'm fine with anyone on two wheels. I know that most of them are feeling the same thing I'm feeling ripping down the road. That's why I wave at everyone no matter what kind of bike. I honk at scooters lol.
I hate the company Harley for killing off Buell the way they did. Not the fact they let it go but with the way they did it and the way they kept Erik from his true potential I dont like a lot of Harley riders because of the their attitude. Every other bike on the road is crap and the idea of a good ride is going from bike night to bike night for the drink specials. I hate it. I also hate when they say "Get a real bike", I always answer "I already have one. It's a Kawasaki" ![]() Other than that I dont really mind passing them as long as they dont mind getting passed. I dont ride really fast in straights anyway so I usually dont have a problem. |
