Sunday Corky Bell's Ride - An Apology

To All the Riders on the Sunday Corky Bell's (Palatka) Ride,

Today was not one of my better moments. I can list several reasons for it, but at the base of it I was corrupted by my inexperience with a 1000cc sportbike.

I have always prided myself on riding safe and sane, and my pass on U.S. 17 on the return trip from Corky Bell's was neither. I am fortunate to ride with outstanding riders who have and continue to teach me lots about being a good rider. But, when I was leading the ride on U.S. 17, I was anything but a good rider.

This was the first ride with the new Ninja 1000 where I had a chance to open it up. I finally passed the break-in period, and when I opened up the bike it was amazing. So amazing, that I seem to have lost my other sensibilities.

I now have a small taste of what it takes to ride a 1000cc sportbike. Fortunately, that taste did not kill me, or more importantly hurt or kill one of my friends and fellow riders.

I have a lot to learn. Part of that learning is offering a sincere apology. I will continue to ride and get better. I certainly never intend to act in such a boneheaded manner again when I am riding.

BTW, I don't feel like you owed me one. We've all made moves we probably shouldn't have at one time or another. The important part is that we learn from them and we walk away unharmed.

Your on a 1k. Have fun with it from time to time. Just have to remember, a time and place for everything.

I wasn't up there with you guys so I didn't see what happened. If you feel you did something wrong and want to apologize for it, apology accepted. But we all ride our own rides, and everyone on this ride is more than capable of making their own decisions to pass or not to pass, so don't feel like you are personally responsible for decisions other people make.

Acceleration is a powerful drug ! I was actually proud of myself for keeping my testosterone in check and not following you guys : (or maybe it was the fact that I was on a 600)
