Yep that was just a few days ago...LOL I had to bring my wife home from Dental Surgery from Colorado Springs. I-25 I was shut down South and North bound so we took the back roads, so did a lot of other people. The city had not put any dirt down on the roads (too cold to use salt and they don't use it here).

It was not JUST snow it was solid ice under the snow, thank God for AWD. On every incline even the slightest front and RWD vehicles were stuck, you had to zig-zag around them. The closer I got home the worst it got as we live in an area that is higher and typically gets worst weather, in fact the hard snow, and cold hit us a lot sooner then it did in Springs...I was out in my T-shirt before all this, that is how fast it changed.

The worst incline was where there was 6-7 vehicles spun out, it was like driving through a maze.

Yep I had a close call too in the Ford Edge. As I was turning right and the steep and odd camber of the roadway to the left I slid and I was barely moving to the oncoming lane, the guy at that stop saw me so he continued out of the way and thank God the guy behind him stayed put as I slid all the way to that curb before I found traction...I gave a sorry wave, although nothing I could have done different.

I chalk it up not to driving as most people were going very slow, but to tires not meant for these conditions, and I bet a lot of the older vehicles I saw that were stuck were do to old balding tires...it amazes me how many people wear their tires down to NO tread. I saw one GSX stuck on no incline, it was pretty flat...I looked over and sad to my wife, I bet he has summer (performance) tires on.

So yeah it was not because of the SNOW per say, it was because of the solid ICE under the snow...in fact most roads yesterday were still solid ice as we been 10 during the day and -8 come dusk. The stuff is not melting.

My furnace has been on none stop pretty much....i hope the sun comes out so I can open the blinds as that will bring the house up to 90 degrees.
