The voice in the night from nowhere

So ya I woke to a clear voice @ about 2am, wtf Did I just hear someone? .38 laying on its side within easy reach, fumble for my crocs, listen, reach for flashlight, damn it left it on coffee table in living room, listen, still quiet, slowly start to clear the house, CQB fresh in my mind from swat school only days ago,,,,,,,stealth is not, foot finds something on the floor, get to light, check door, not locked, not good, clear upstairs, look into garage, door closed thats a plus, but the voice? Basement? not likely, but I head down, horror show Images in my head as I move down stairs with no backing to that nice little cubby hole, no gray bleeding hand shoots out tonight, only using my flash light and light discipline I clear the dark and dank basement, and nothing.......................
So that leads me back upstairs and outside...........still nothing...........
The voice? That is the question, but it most certainly was from no where............
