I've only ever seen this done twice. Once was a guy putting his Ipod earbuds in before a ride, and another was from the in-bike stereo a Harley had while cruising through a little mountain tourist trap.
Anyone here do that? Is it distracting?

It's not distracting to me at all, in fact I'm more in the zone when I ride with the radio on. Only time it becomes a problem is if I want to change the station and have to either scan through until i find something or take my hand off to hit a preset.

I listen to my MP3 every time I ride, for the most part. Whether I'm running an errand, or riding over to meet up with Tammy and Lauren to ride, at least one plug is in my ear. It's actually against the law to ride with two, but for longer distance, higher speed rides it's pretty much necessary if you actually want to hear what's playing. I have upbeat music on my player, so it helps to get my blood flowing and my energy higher...which in turn for me, tends to cause me to scan more if that's even possible.

I haven't tried it yet.
Music does help improve "performance" of sorts especially instrumental stuff. I didn't realize it until on day while I was working I put in an instrumental tape in my truck. I was in overnight package delivery at the time (Airborne Express) and after awhile I noticed my delivery times improving. 15-20 minutes doesn't seem like much time on the clock but in the freight business its huge. Oddly enough the tape was Yanni - Live at the Acropolis. It's pretty up beat for that style of music

I am usually listening to music when I ride. Keeps me focused on riding, esp for long trips. Without it, esp on the highway, my mind wanders too easily.

I have custom molded earplugs with speakers. When I'm riding out of town, I'll put a foamy ear plug in one ear and one of the custom earplugs in the other. After a couple of hours, I'll reverse.

I may have to try it again. Now that the helmet has opened up a little and not as snug, it might work
