I would say that normal riding is light exercise. You're probably not going to lose a lot of weight doing it, or get yourself into shape for a marathon. But if you're in decent shape, I think it counts as a sort of fun way to get a little physical activity and help maintain.

Depends some on the bike and the activity. Dirtbiking is a *lot* of exercise. Riding a supermotard in the twisties probably would be pretty good. Riding an unfaired bike for an hour or more at 80+ will work you out a little bit. Going to the ice cream store on a GoldWing, not so much (unless it falls over and you have to pick it up).

But seriously, no, I don't think it's typical for your heart rate to go up like that for normal street riding. It may be *normal* for you, though. Compare to your pulse doing what you would consider similar types of activity (again seriously).
