Boudicca was a real person. Athena was/is a goddess/deity. Nothing wrong with Athena, just apples to oranges. Boudicca was a kick ass living woman. I don't think the planet has had another since her. In Human history, Boudicca reigns supreme. Cleopatra never directly commanded an Army. Joan of Arc? Maybe close. I'm trying to think of more women, but can't. Anyone else?

This is a few that I copy and pasted from another board.

Wu Zetian (Wu Zetian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) (Shengshen Huangdi) - took the throne after killing off anyone who stand in her way. As Knight Dragon said however she was a capable ruler. Ruthless, but capable.

Irene of Athens (smartboard indian food kids domain at edwardsly.com) - Irene son was emperor Constantine VI. She served as regent but attempted to retain power when he came of age. She was exiled, but her son (emperor Constantine) allowed her to return. She returned the favour by having her son arrested, blinded and left for dead. Unlike Wu Zetian she wasn't an effective ruler and managed to lose control of Rome to Charlemagne of the Franks. Her ministers rebeled and exiled her in 802.

Trung Sisters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trung_Sisters)- Vietnamese equivalent of Boudicca. They rose up against imperial oppressors (in this case Han China), ruled for a while, but were eventually defeated.

Empress Matilda - (Empress Matilda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) fought in a civil war with Stephen for the throne of England.

Tomyris (Tomyris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) - defeated Cyrus II in battle.

Kahina (Kahina - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) - Jewish. Led the Berbers against Muslim Arabs .

Ana de Sousa Nzinga Mbande (Nzinga of Ndongo and Matamba - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Led African states against the Portuguese.

Raziyya Iltutmish (http://www.distinguishedwomen.com/bi...ya.html)Sultan of Delhi. She was a good ruler, but a woman, so she was assassinated after four years.

Zenobia (Zenobia) Led a breakaway state of Palmyra (Roman Empire) for around two decades.

Hind al-Hunud (Hind al-Hunud) She supposedly led her army against that of the Prophet Mohammad back in 7th century Arabia.

Khawlah Bint al-Kindiyyah (Khawlah Bint al-Kindiyyah) Ruthless wife of Caliph Ali. Led an Islamic army against the Greeks

I'll bet there are few women/girls named "Hind al-Hunud" over in the middle east. Either Hind or with the last name of al-Hunud.

Could be, I have to wonder if parents would name their girls after famous women in their countries history or even if the parents have even heard of those famous women?

I'm going to guess that as a woman who battled *against* Mohammed, it's not going to (be allowed to) be a very popular name in those countries. I'm might even speculate that it's not a name played up in the madrassas as a heroic figure.
