Performance driving schools teach two hands on the wheel (it's 9&3, and you keep them in place even during full wheel rotation). When I teach EVOC, you use 2 hands (same 9&3). There is no way 1 hand is superior to 2, or you'd see F1 drivers waving to people.
 However, other then race cars and those rare moments during a pursuit, 1 hand CAN be sufficient at times, but unfortunately a vast majority of divers in this country lack basic skills and awareness to begin with.

Tammy the answer to your question about driving ability is that it is easier to put a bandaid on a problem then to fix it right. Adding new laws is easier for our government to do then revamping the driving test that allow us to get our drivers license. I was in the DMV with my son last week and heard a lady tell the clerk she couldn't see without her glasses and the clerk said take them off we should try without them first WTF??? Why so the lady can legally drive blind??? Yup guess so cos somehow she passed the vision test go figure. So I guess we are "stuck on bandaid brand cos bandaids stuck on us"
