Default New camp knife

I have been searching for over a year for that perfect camping/survival knife that just "felt" right. Now, I am planning a couple of hiking/camping trips in the next few months (including 3 nights on the appalatian trail), so I decided it was time to start getting some gear that I have been putting off.

While at Dick's Sporting Goods the other day looking at new sleeping bags, I happened to notice the SOG Seal Pup for $99. It was a little more than I wanted to spend for my knife, and it had a black, partially serated blade. I prefer straight edge (I don't want to have to sharpen serations) and no coating (it will eventually wear off anyway), but to each their own. I was still somewhat interested. Well, I was back in Dicks this past weekend, and noticed it marked down to $63. This was more like it, so I decided to do a little research.

While searching online, I found that they have an elite version with a slightly thicker blade, and you can get it straight edged without the coating. And from all the reviews I read, it seems like the Seal Pup Elite may be THE perfect survival knife. When I went back to Dicks today to see how the original Pup felt in my hand, I knew I had finally found the perfect knife for me. I went online, and found it for $59 at amazon. I have some Christmas money from my parents to spend, so this became part of my present.

I can't wait to get it in some time in the next week, but for now, I will post up the specs from the SOG website:

Blade Length - 4.85" x .185"
Overall Length - 9.5"
Weight - 5.4 oz.
Edge - Straight
Steel - AUS 8
HRC - 57-58
Handle - Zytel
Finish - Satin
Sheath - Nylon
Price - $105.00

I just picked up a Leatherman Wave. I love it, and it's already seen a ton of use in the week I've had it.

And yeah, I'm wearing it on the belt sheath. Fuck yeah.

One thing I really like about this knife is that the sheath has a pretty large pocket. I have a leathermane kick that I figure I will drop in there. It is nice to have a multitool around the camp as well.

I carry a SOG Meridian daily. The edge retention is awesome. If your pup is as good you will love it. (also, in 3 years of daily use the black coating is holding up better than any Benchmade I've owned.)
