Default Prepaid Cell Phones

Has anyone used these? I usually need a phone maybe once or twice a month -- if even -- so paying $40/month for even the most basic plans seems like poor value for service to me.

I'm using a TracFone for the same reasons you're looking for something different (cheaper). I haven't had any problems with them.

Virgin and T-Mobil are very similar AFAIK.

yes, love em, had net10 which was the best deal with a flat rate of .10 a minute and no extra charges, be careful of most as they have extra charges to eat up your minuts, its a great phone if you do not talk much, I used that for almost a year, saved me a ton of money vs verizon phone.
Wally world however, just had a deal with a company that has unlimited minutes, texts, and internet for 45 a month, I just picked up that phone, seems to be working well, but I cant remember the name of the program and I am to lazy to get up right now to look for ya lol.

verizon and a lot of other places now has one dollar a day for whatever you use. If you only use it twice its only 2 dollars. Something like that.

And how in the hell do you not use a cell phone more?

Life has really started to suck since these personal communication devices have evolved into a 24-7 leash. Of course, I am starting to ignore it like I do the home phone when it rings.

It is getting a bit ridiculous.

I have a blackberry, a personal laptop, a work laptop and a company on-call ohone (when it's my turn to be on call). Everyone in my family has a cell phone and a laptop, and some also have desktops. And we all have land lines.

I have both a Verizon and an AT&T cell phone account with a total of 5 lines active.

The only time I am cut off from instant communication is when I'm riding.

I'm a boring person and I hate talking on the phone - makes it easy. I'm also "old fashioned" at my young age I guess, because rather than jabber on the phone with a friend, I simply call them, talk for 30 seconds, and make plans to meet up with them in person for a drink and a chat.
