Wife called me and begged me not to ride home. I rode in this morning in the cold wet, but there's a frontal system going over us now and we're getting 40-50mph wind gusts.

I don't mind wet, hell I'd even ride in sleet. But the wind scares me worse of all. I'm only 170lbs and my bike is a 636 so I really get blown all over the road when the wind kicks up.

So I'm gonna be a puss. I'm gonna borrow a car to drive home in and leave the bike here rather than risk eating pavement on my way home.

I do have some riding experience in the wind. But not enough to deal with a 50 mile an hour side blast while rolling by a semi.

Been riding in the cold. 33 degrees so far! WOOT!!! People think I'm crazy. People are right!!!!

Well, I just spent the last 1.5 hours blowing part of my driveway open and will be going back out in just a bit to finish.

The driveway from the house to the road is 125', the first 20 feet hardly had any snow, but the next 100 were under 14"-18" of snow.

Next comes the part from the main drive to our pole building, which is about 225' long. It looks like most of that is only about 6"-10" deep.

Oh yeah, it's still snowing. Tomorrow's high is supposed to be 8*, it's 24* right now.

Guess I'm done riding for a while...

I rode in 50 mph winds a couple nights in a row when it was just nasty storming here a couple years ago to get to work. I think I rode the whole way there at a 30-40 degree angle just to keep from getting blown off the road.

Yeah, riding in the wind totally blows. (no pun intended) I remember riding in the Dakotas when it was always 35-50 mph winds....what seemed like every day.

It sure took the fun out of it.

That's right! In fact, why endanger your life by riding a bike at all?!? It's quite risky, you know. You could get hurt.
