If you're on an open road/freeway, speed up. The faster you go the less you're affected by side winds. (Technically - the apparent wind moves further forward.)

I commute so I roll about 80. For the most part the winds are blustery at best. But then there's always that freakin' cross wind that conveniently changes lanes for me.

I will say this. Tucking helps alot. And focus focus focus on keeping your arms slack and gripping the tank with your legs to support your weight. These two techniques helped alot.

Tucking was instinct. But the deal with keeping my arms slack was a tip from a Yami forum that my wife sent me via email. It was an FZ6 forum from what I could see. But the advice was dead on.

Wind still scares me though. But I'm getting better at dealing with it, and I know that I'm becoming a better rider because of it.

The other thing you can do if you're in traffic anyway is get on the leeward side of a truck. There'll still be buffeting, but it'll block the gusts, which are the dangerous part. Actually the most dangerous part of riding in wind is the wind shadows. Gusts always have *some* time for the bike to react as they build and ebb, but when the wind is suddenly cut to zero by a passing truck or overpass/building, you really tend to fall over into them.

It's a practice thing; experience is what you get right after you needed it!

kevin covered a good part of it already, around here, if you dont ride in 40 MPH winds you simply would never ride, you would not believe the wind where joe lives.

Wind is fairly easy, just remember that it acts exactly as water when going around an object so plan ahead, also memorize where and how the wind acts in certain area's, it will almost always be the same.

You are a fool for riding in 33 degree weather however, cold pavement really keeps your tire temp low which of course on sport tires eliminates your grip and all it takes are some shadows to hold a little ice spot even in the middle of the day. Do you understand your bike enough to know how to control it if it slides?
