Default Why I Love Science

Ok, here we have a case where scientists have come across something they have not seen before and can't explain. Something as simple as beads in a box.

Baffling Patterns Form in Scientific Sandbox | Wired Science | Wired.com

What makes this great, is that this phenomenon will be studied, and the mechanics will take years and probably a super computer to sort out.

Along the way other physicists and mathematicians will test their theories and ultimately an answer will become generally accepted and able to be proven by anyone.

What is so important about beads in a box?

So many granular things exist in the universe, that an understanding of the above phenomenon will advance other sciences.

I love science because people find truth. I will never understand what the scientists do, or how they arrive at their conclusions, but if I went to school and learned their disciplines, then I could independently prove their work.

Science rocks!

Very cool. Thanks.

The universe is a very interesting place, just as it actually measurably exists, without any need to make up supernatural stuff.

Until science can prove why someone can eat a small handful of nuts and be full but can eat like 50 White Castle burgers and only get sick, I'm not buying into any of it.

Actually, as usual, science has no true answers. They move that way because of Intelligent Moving. They form currents because God reaches down and moves them that way.

But how do you know the "supernatural stuff" is not really there naturally, because it is supposed to be there and you just don't understand why it is there?

That's simple. When confronting such phenomena as UFOs, little green men, or supernatural stuff, always ask where the energy goes and where it comes from. Remember: conversation of mass, conservation of energy, conservation of charge, conservation of momentum, etc.

Dragons, however, were very real...it's just non of the fossil evidence survived.

If it's there naturally, it's not supernatural stuff, and thus it can be rationally detected and studied. I'm talking about all that stuff that so many people claim is there, but can't ever provide any hard evidence for. Like space aliens, ghosts, and God.

We KNOW that people's minds and perceptions are imperfect. We KNOW that people's minds play tricks in them. We KNOW that our species is so tuned to pattern recognition that we are prone to "recognize" patterns that aren't actually there.

Give me hard, measurable, reproducible evidence, and I'll believe anything you can show to be true. Until then, I'm a skeptic. And as I noted, there are PLENTY of phenomena that are supported by hard, measurable, reproducible evidence, that are fascinating and worthy of study.

Do you have any actual evidence for that?
