I figured since I started the Favorite Guitarist thread, then why not start a favorite/best drummer? Now, as far as naming the best drummer, that part will probably be all opinion. And for all you old farts who say Neal Pert is the best, then I'm sorry, but there are a whole lot of young bucks out there now that will blow him out of the water. I could name 20 off the top of my head right now. But no matter, if he's your favorite, name him. If you have videos or sound clips, upload them and lets hear.
Tim Yuen is my first nomination. Drummer for a metal band called Divine Heresy. The singer and guitarist for Fear Factory are also in this band.

Bonzo, obviously, just on general principle. But also Neil Peart.

Every day, until I can run out of names, I'll add a new fast as shit drummer, so this thread is going to be open for a while.
Tim Yuen again:

Keith Moon. If you've ever watched the footage of the Who on the Smothers Brothers show that's contained in the The Kids Are Alright documentary you'll know. He was not, technically, the greatest drummer out there, but he's my favorite nonetheless. He's also the only rocker who might have been more nuts than Ozzy Osbourne, and that counts for a lot for me.
Otherwise... though I don't know their names, the drummer for the Funk Brothers (Motown session band), and James Brown's many drummers.

Also, he had some drug and alcohol problems, but whenever you hear people who knew him talk about him, its clear he was a good guy. |
