Jumping in here kinda late.........
Yeah, track days are both expensive and addicting. Just spent xmas parked about 200 feet from turns 5,6, and 7 at Laguna Seca. Saturday they were running the Skip Barber driving school where they run those cute little smaller versions of a formula one car. Hearing the sounds, listening to the screech of tires on the corners brought back all kinds of memories of the last three years of track time there. Unfortunately, at $230 plus per day plus tires, gas and food, kinda expensive. Buttonwillow is a lot less at about $120 or so and much closer to the house. However, tires, gas, food still cost about the same. Am I gonna give it up? Nah! But I'm not able to go as often, which sucks. Track time is where you can really hone your riding skills without worrying about a car in your lane coming at you, road kill that you have to avoid, gravel, dirt, etc. Made me a MUCH better driver all the way around........ |

I agree that track riding is a good place to hone your skills. And it has done that for me. But I am at the stage in my life where I need to think seriously about what would happen if I crashed. I wouldn't heal nearly as quickly as I would have 5 or 10 years ago.
The only way my track riding is going to improve from where it is now is if I push my limits. And that is a risk I am no longer willing to take. I have been lucky so far. I have never crashed or even run off into the grass while riding on a track. The more I go, the more likely it is that I will. I don't want to do it that bad anymore. It is not a priority. That's not to say I won't do it anymore. I will, but it will be just to play around and have fun, like the last day I did with Jenn. I need to get rid of my lap timer as well. I had way more fun before I got the damn thing. I am going to get a custom suit from Syed in the next year. Hopefully that will relieve some of the stress I feel from an ill-fitting suit. Half my issues on the track come from not being able to move in a suit that won't let me, and is way too hot & heavy for the climate I usually ride in. I notice that I ride better on the street, because I'm in a jacket and jeans or more pliable riding pants. I know the suit is there to protect you, but comfort has to come into it, otherwise it just turns you off and defeats the purpose of being out there.

I like the new AV, Mark.
Yeah, I'm going to have to forego trackdays too. I have no insurance and called to see if State Farm would put medical on my bike policy and they said no, that it's not offered.

Hey Jenn, I'm going riding and Wren might come out. Any chance you can come out for a few hours? (I know it's a long way for you, but if you are bored....)
