Thumbs down DMG gives Buell a cheat pass to ride Superbike in AMA

Well, the Buell racing corporation, I mean the DMG, has again given Buell a cheat pass...They allow the 1125 to race in the 600 class, and now they are going to blatantly disregard clearly written rules regarding the AMA superbike class...

Buell has a new bike the 1125rr (note the 2nd r)...It is not street legal and not available to the public for purchase...Both of these things are a must according the AMA racing rules...

Yes well I guess DMG is thinking since there is a street legal version of the bike then they have met that part of the rules and will allow Buell to leave off the stuff not needed to be road legal. Either that or someone got an early Christmas present. Either way DMG will be the death of AMA racing for as long as they have anything to do with it.

I'd say the Buell is doing pretty damn good in it's intro year.

Considering it's 1125 ccs and it's competing against 600s, I would hope it's doing pretty well. Even Ducati didn't get a nearly 100% displacement advantage over the 750s when SBK was the Ducati cup in all but name. Buell should be mopping up.

Actually, Buell execution and build quality was sorely lacking until they were purchased by Harley, and that takeover made the bikes much better, as well as less expensive. I've always liked a lot of the ideas in Buells, and have looked at them several times over the last 20 years or so. But I would not have seriously considered buying one made prior to Harley's investment, and even then was leery of the engine longevity. The new 1125 models are nice bikes, and I would seriously consider one if I was in the market for a new bike right now.

All of which does not really have anything to do with AMA allowing them to cheat, which I agree is lame.

While I agree with you on the unfair advantage in regards to displacment, I don't agree about the new machine "mopping up."

I don't think Buell is at the same level of set up, support and rider skill that the top contenders are at.

I believe that those differences show in the results thus far..
