Default Quad/dune help!

I've signed up with the GF to go quadding this weekend at the Glamis Dunes (GlamisDunes.com). She's an expert. I've never been on an ATV in my life. AND I fully intend to piss her off with a Halloween trick on the way out there!

So, I need some quick assistance in how to ride one of these things (sport 400cc quad w/paddles), at least well enough that she fails to kill me. Any good tips, links, or videos? All I found on YouTube was basic here's-the-gas-here's-the-brake for utility quads.

Ok, y'all failed to be there for me. I'm blaming the results on each of you!

The best advice I can give you is you probably shouldn't have done whatever it was that you did.

Yeah, unfortunately.

I know absolutely nothing about quads, so I wouldn't even know if linking a video would have actually been helpful or someone just talking out of their ass.

Did they cast you up to your shoulder? Did you actually break something, or just sprain it?

They say sprain after X-rays, but I sure have a lot of things clicking and grinding in there that weren't on Friday. Ice, Vicodin and muscle relaxers, and we'll see how it goes. I have a track day next weekend I don't intend to miss. :grr

Ouch!

So you didn't get to beat her, and you didn't get some afterwards... I think you owned yourself.

Seriously, quads scare the crap out of me. I've only rode quads twice, and both times it was scary, trying to lean into the turn with the bike leaning the other way... that's wrong! And what's up with that "steering", counter steering doesn't work either!

Hope it's only a sprained shoulder and hope you'll recover soon.

Actually you're spot on. I kept failing to follow her track as I tried to countersteer the quad! Then just as I was getting the hang of it, I made that mistake one time too many, had to abandon her track and turn the bike downhill and power down and out over the bowl top, and... failed. Not sure exactly what happened, that had worked previously to get me out of a mistake. I think there was a whoop in the sand on the way down that I didn't get until too late. Anyway I highsided over the top of the quad and landed on my right side.

(shrug) What I get for being stupid. It could have been much worse. Give me a few days and I'll know how bad I'm really hurt - doc says Xrays negative but they didn't do an MRI. It's weird that I didn't have this problem with snowmobiles - guess they were "different" enough that I was able to detach them from motorcycle operation.

Happily I don't think it will hurt more than it does today. The worse pain after a wreck is always the next day, then you start healing and feeling better.

Did it really hurt at the moment? Usually fractures don't hurt that much right after they happen, it's spaining that really hurts.
