I'm planning on going for a mountain ride tomorrow and while I was prepping the bike, I noticed the chain was getting a tad grungy. What's a good and easy way to clean it up and is there a particular type of solvent/cleaner to use? Inquiring minds want to know

I don't recall the name of it, but I got it from the local honda dealer .. chain cleaner and it comes with a spiral brush that you wrap around the chain ..
You spray the solvent on and turn the wheel by hand while holding the brush. put the Brush on the top, and rotate the wheel forward .. else you gets pinchy points going backwars

That sounds pretty groovy. I have to go to town later so I may swing by the Honda shop and see if they have that.
Yeah pinchy points are a bad day waiting to happen especially with chains and sprockets And don't do it with the enging running because of what I saw in a video someone posted once. Loosing fingers makes for a worse day

I generally use wd40 and a rag. But I am prolly gonna get kerosene and use a brush from cycle world to scrub it next time.

I'm definitely going to need some kind of brush.
Would engine degreaser or brake cleaner be too harsh? I know it wouldn't be for the chain, I was thinking of maybe the bike parts around the chain ie painted surfaces

These are my techniques
1) Gunk Engine Degrease, which self-emulsifies ![]() 2) Use the Grunge Brush ![]() 3) Repeat as necessary 4) Use the Palmolive to finish off the emulsification and neutralize the Gunk chemicals ![]() 5) Maxima chain lube, which dries to a cool thick coat, but goes on thin. I also spray exposed metal with the Maxima lube.

I have all the above except for the brush.
Never thought about the dishwashing soap. Definitely not a bad idea especially around the painted surfaces I've gotta go find one of those brushes brb
