Okay, it's winter time here. Too damn cold to go riding, especially since I have summer weight leathers. So, my bike is sitting in the garage getting all damn dusty and surrounded by junk. Last time I let 'er sit all winter the damn battery died on me while riding- here's what happened last time: Ever have one of those days? - Sportbikes.net
So, what's the best protocol for optimum battery life? I heard something about trickle chargers, but I already have a battery charger which I know isn't the same thing. Any help appreciated! And yes, I know the best way to take care of it is to go for a ride once in awhile! |

You could remove the battery from the bike and keep it warm for the winter.
Or get one of those small solar battery tenders and a charge controller / or integral unit. |

I've kept mine on a trickle charger for a week at a time sometimes, no problem. I've used a trickle charger quite a bit, in fact, and it hasn't affected the battery any noticeable way.

Wallmart.....bout 15-20 bucks......or Harbor Freight.....
its called a batery tender .....they work your batery I have them on my lawn tractor and cycles......."IF" the vehical is in cold weather like an unheated building....I recomend a removal and in somewhere it stays ubove 50/w the tender. everyone knows bateries in cycles do not have a good life span in places like here when they don't get rode for months......my last bike was in the showroom and had to be charged to start......2 years later still using THAT batery....always on full I stand by these ....... (all above content is in direct thoughts and views of Means)

Oh alright! I go get and bring into the house. Lessee, that would be the motorcycle, riding lawnmower and the ATV farm vehicle.....WTH am I going to put three batteries?
Oh yeah, 'nuther question: Can you daisy chain the batteries together i.e in series while trickle charging? |

No, because in essence then you have 36V(nom) across the outside terminals.

You'd wanna be sure that the cells in paralell are all kept at the same voltage though!! Hard to do in that regard as it's unlikely that the three batteries from the three units will all be identical.

Yeah, parallel is what I meant. I always get those two mixed up! LOL
I'll just put the trickler on a battery a week and keep switching them around then. thanks for the help guys! |

That's your best bet. When parallelling batteries they have to all have the same potential, elsewise, the weaker cells become loads and the stronger cells will destroy themselves.
