So Chuck got me a Sena bluetooth for xmas (Thanks Chuck!!), and it came with a car charger, so I decided to finally put a ciggie lighter socket on my bike.
The Sena is cool as hell. It's an intercom, a bluetooth and can play music from an mp3 player or phone. I haven't used it on the road yet, will probably try it out this weekend. But wearing it around the house it seems to work really well. Jenn already has one, and Lauren said she might get one too now, so we'll finally be able to let each other know when we have to stop to pee without all the weird gestures and hand signals. ![]() The only thing is, I'm just not sure how I will handle talking on the phone or to other riders via the intercom while riding. This will be a totally new experience to me. Music I can handle, and even sort of require, but to talk to someone besides myself... not sure yet. The intercom probably won't be so bad, but the phone thing. I don't know. I'll have to go up the road and get someone to call me so I can see what it's like. If I don't like it, I just won't pair it with my phone on a regular basis. Sena Bluetooth ![]() Running out of room to mount things on my helmet ![]() And the power socket. Yes, I realize my bike is filthy. It's been way too cold to give it a bath. ![]()

That's not a filthy bike!
By the way, what's the "I need to pee" hand signal? LOL! We usually use the fuel hand signal, and that explains why we stop for fuel just a few miles after refueling?

It's kind of like this, only you don't get off the bike -

Cool! I will probably get one soon...and use another helmet for the ones I use with Bill.
A couple of things I've noticed about having an intercom. 1) Sometimes a helmet will be so noisy that the mic keys open if it's voice activated. 2) Having someone tell you it's "all clear" makes you lazy. I was almost killed when Bill never said anything and I almost pulled out infront of someone. 3) Sometimes I yell at people in my helmet. 4) It's great for slow speed when you are trying to find a parking spot and need to coordinate. 5) It's great for warning of stuff. 6) It makes for coordinated passing on roads. I like having a communicator with other riders, but at the same time I am ok without. I think it will be fun to talk to riders other than my husband. |

Definitely don't make it voice activated! That is an option, but I don't recommend it at all. When I first got this one, it was paired to someone else's and the person who used it before me had set it to voice. The dang thing kept connecting to them. There is a base unit that has a flat mic that sticks to the front of the helmet which is WAY better than the boom one that we have. It doesn't have the wind noise when you're talking on the phone and such that the boom has. Eh...I'm just happy to have it. I like not having to make sure my ear buds are right in my ears and them moving when I put my helmet on.

Pretty much everyone around here knows that she's talking about me! I'm the one with the pea sized bladder and it's hard to let the front person know that I need to stop since I always bring up the rear and it hits me hard and fast when it hits.

That would be bad if you, like me, sing in the helmet. Imagine randomly hearing your friend start to sing randomly...

Well, if you have music playing, the music cuts off when it activates, so you'd know that someone else was going to hear you before they do.
