So I have access to a couple old inline 4s for a reasonable price.
Not sure what Id do with them but was thinking of maybe doing some upgrade builds with modern forks and swingarms and wheels/brakes ect. Anyone have any idea if its worth my time to turn a few of these things out? Not really looking to win the powerball off them but dont want to do it for free either. Opinions please? |

It's always been my understanding that a restored bike (or car for that matter) is generally not going to fetch a price that will pay back what was put into it. I guess it would depend on what the area market is like for classic bikes, cause if you are chaulk full of teens who want the latest and sexiest, they might not appreciate the beauty of a classic.
That said, a few builds in the section would be really sweet. It seems like there is always an idea or two that can be applied to any bike, and that makes for a fun time of trying to figure out how to make it happen.

put a 250 2 stroke motor into a medium sized pocket rocket, stretch the frame and pull holeshots on people all day?

The more important question is:
What motors do you have access to, and what kind of parts do you have laying around? I've always wanted to take a cruiser-type frame (not a cruiser frame, because they are NOWHERE near stiff enough), stuff a sportbike engine and suspension/brakes on it, and turn it into something that handles well, is SUPER comfy, lightweight, and handles nicely. Something with like 3/4 of the ergos of a cruiser for comfort, 70% of the handling ability of a sportbike, and enough power to get you into trouble. |

I'm sure there's a market but that market may not necessarily make it worth your time and effort. How about a cafe racer but with modern touches such as upgraded forks, brakes, etc?

you know.......CB750 with some motor upgrades and say a 900RR front end and swinger? It dont matter what the bits are.........I can fabricate. I also have piles of shit laying around that I need to either get rid of or use it. My garage sucks right now. Present cool projects........ My TURBO 636 My Hawk 650 that has been retrofitted with USD forks and is either getting a YZ450 motor or a Quadzilla 500........the quadzilla is too much work though. I have 2 ZX7s to refurb........ I have a 96 900RR that needs to go away............ F3 with 900RR motor and turbo STREETFIGHTER And Im desperately looking for a 1000RR to do some sick shit to........ So, I really need some room and want to build some quick and dirty bikes.

I think cafe would be the way to go. I'd do it up a little more modern than just a standard cafe though. Kinda like a cafe / street fighter type. Knowing your abilities to fab and what not I think you could be able to do it fairly cheap and still have a helluve running machine.
